Tutu skirts are a major trend this year. They’ve been quietly gaining popularity for a while now, and although you won’t see many tutu skirts outside of ballet class, you’re sure to spot a few worn by the young, adventurous, and trendy. Here are my takes on the trend:
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Casual:
I adore this pink tutu skirt because it’s light, frothy, and fun – everything a tutu skirt should be! I chose a loose, embellished sweater to balance out the dressed-up vibe of the skirt. To keep the look from being too sweet, toughen it up with quirky rings and black accessories. (How gorgeous is that black Botkier tote?)

Dressy:
While I don’t recommend wearing tutu skirts to formal events, this chic ensemble would be perfect for dinner out or a date. The black undertones of the skirt inspired me to create a sophisticated but fun outfit. pairing the tutu skirt with black basics. A loose tank and a
blazer add menswear-inspired touches to balance out the obvious girliness of the skirt. Luxe black accessories, like classic black pumps, a textured belt, and a quilted clutch add an element of timeless sophistication. Finish with burgundy nails to add a pop of color.

The key to wearing tutu skirts is balance, balance, balance! Here are a few things to think about when putting together your own tutu skirt ensemble:
…………………………………………………………………………………………..
Do:
- pair with menswear-inspired pieces to balance out the girliness of the look
- dress it down with casual pieces and basics to keep the look grounded
- find a length and volume that’s right for your body
Don’t:
- wear it with a leotard, too much pink, or shoes that lace up around the ankle – that’s taking the trend too literally
- take yourself too seriously, as this trend is all about quirky fun
- spend too much money on a tutu skirt – it’s a fad that will pass sooner or later
What do you think about tutu skirts? Too silly or too fabulous? Would you wear this trend? Comment and let me know!

The tutu skirt I always think is Carrie Bradshaw’s from the opening of sex and the city. I am IN LOVE with that show!

I love tutu skirts, they’re so fun and whimsical, although I do think it’s fun to take the trend literally once in a while (that is, if you pull it off). I’ve debated invested in one, but I’m torn, especially because I’m such a pear shape and don’t know if it’d be exactly flattering.
I think tutu skirts can be flattering on pear shapes if the tiers don’t have too much volume. Of course, the best way to determine if they’re flattering is to try one on! If you feel confident in a tutu skirt, then by all means, go for it. :)
I’m planning to wear a black tutu to the winter magic festival in the Blue Mountains, appreciate the tips here and am seeking a top hat to complete my whacky ensemble, lol!
