Bright Whimsy in Montreal

February 19, 2010
One of my favorite aspects of city fashion is that although the city may have a typical aesthetic, every fashionista in the city brings her own flair and style to the mix. I spotted this ensemble amidst a sea of black in Montreal. While everyone else was bundled up head to toe in heavy black coats, thick scarfs, fur-lined hoods, and tall boots, this particular look truly stood out thanks to it’s bright color and whimsical accessories.

This look was anchored by a simple gray v-neck tee and a pair of black skinny jeans. These cool basics were the only things, well, basic, about this look. To keep warm, this girl added black over-the-knee socks reminiscent of Cynthia Steffe’s F/W 2010 collection underneath bright purple Hunter boots. The rain boots were not only eye-catching, but they protected her from snow and cold – what more can you ask for in Montreal?

The accessories continued: purple gloves and a matching printed scarf tied around the handle of her black tote bag added character to the outfit without venturing into the realm of matchy-matchy Garanimals. A vibrant blue Pashmina kept her warm (an absolute necessity during February in Montreal!) while cool Ray-Bans shielded her from the sun. A black headband lent a touch of feminine flair. To complete the look, she had a vintage-inspired pocketwatch necklace peek out from under her scarf.

…………………….

Too many accessories, you say? Quite possibly. But in light of the harsh Montreal winters, bundling up from head to toe is entirely necessary. Why not do it in style?
