Inspired By Ingrid Michaelson

May 1, 2010
I’ve been enamored with Ingrid Michaelson’s music lately. Her sweet voice works perfectly with her charming lyrics and simple guitar chords. It’s impossible to listen to her music and not be in a good mood! I’ve been listening to her music nonstop for three days and was inspired to create two outfits that bring her music to life. Check them out:

Ingrid’s music is primarily about girls, boys, and relationships. Her poetic lyrics are simple, far from fussy, and remind me of summer. With that in mind, I put together two summer outfits that embody understated femininity.

On the left: Although the colors may be muted, the studded sandals, yummy patent leather bag, and quirky earrings jazz up this basic combo. I chose to tuck a soft button-down tank into a pair of high-waisted black Topshop shorts and finished the look with a cozy shawl cardigan. So many of Ingrid’s songs are about feeling sad about relationships and working through tough times, so I chose this slightly somber color palette to echo those feelings. Listen to: Giving Up, Breakable, Starting Now. (Click to listen!)

On the right: On the flip side, Ingrid also has written several songs about falling in love, which I chose to symbolize with a pink outfit. I like this slouchy tissue-weight tee tucked into the adorable floral print shorts – obviously girly, but without going too over-the-top or literal. Finish with a soft pink cardigan, rosette-covered sandals, a buttery leather bag, and an eccentric octopus-shaped ring. Listen to: Everybody, You and I, The Way I Am. (Click to listen!)
