Trend Alert: Lace-Up Ankle Boots

August 6, 2010

Remember when ankle booties were the “it” shoe to wear? And then oxfords? And then peep-toe boots? (Shoe-booties? Shooties?) And then over-the-knee boots? Like clockwork, every fall brings a new boot trend. The newest incarnation to catch my eye is the lace-up ankle boot.

Lace-Up Ankle BootsTop row: Azzedine Alaïa, Modcloth, Alexander McQueen, Chloé. Bottom row: Giuseppe Zanotti, Dsquared2, ASOS, Cinzia Araia.

A little utilitarian, a little urban, and completely chic; this trend is truly versatile, adaptable to a multitude of styles – a refreshing twist after seasons and seasons of edgy black boot after edgy black boot. Dsquared2’s rugged version looks straight out of an upscale L.L. Bean catalog. My personal favorite, the gorgeous olive Zanottis, leans towards the equestrian prep end of the spectrum.

Still not convinced? Check out an outfit I styled around this trend:

Giuseppe Zanotti #1

The warm olive, chocolate, and mulberry tones bring this summery floral dress straight into fall. Between the boots, the cozy layers, and the gold bangles, this outfit fits firmly into the “gypset” trend (thank you, Louise Roe!). While the term doesn’t exactly make sense (do gypsies jetset?), I love the vibe associated with it. The boots add the perfect touch to this ensemble.

What do you think? Do you like lace-up ankle booties? And more importantly, will you buy me the Zanottis? (I need those shoes. End of story. In the meantime, I will admire them from afar.)

xoxo Hannah
